Hola
Maria Jose; Carlos and Patrick - CO Flight Attendant and I went to Burgos - a small, old City 2.5 hours north of Madrid -
It was so much fun -
We were the guests of Carlos' firends Monolo and Blanca at the Military Sports Accademy for a seafood lunch. After we had a walking tour of the very nice facility - tennis; Equestrian; swimming; gyms; fotbal; etc There is an old Mill turned into a restaurant that was fun to see.
Then we ran off to see an old monestary in the woods and on a hill - could not tour inside. Its name is Cartuja el rey Enrique III el Doliente. Did you know the churchs all face east form when the moors were in Spain?
Next was Monestero de San Petro de Cardena - the home of El CID (remember the movie) who was born here in 1045.
Finally we finished the tour in the center of town - very old Medieval streets rehabed with shopping and bars and restaurants. The Catedral de Burgos is huge - looks like Notre Dame a little, and there is a small side alter with Christ on a cross made of animal hide and real hair.
We also visited - here is the interesting part - 3 bars for a beverage and topas in each.
Bar Gaona Jardin - Excellent Seafood topas
Casa Pancho - an oyster & potato tapa to die for
Pinchos de la Casa - I did nto eat - had pork in it ...
Did not get home until 1am - had work to do for class this morning -
Was up until 5:30 am - but got to chat with Ton Berreth on SKYPE! Let me know if you set up skype so we can talk
School went well - but there is an incredible amount of stuff to learn/do - I will be working very hard these 4 weeks! I guess my 4 month vacation is over
Adios
Beto
